THE OLD OAK tells the tale of a Northeastern English community where the mine has closed and the residents feel abandoned by the system. What was once a prosperous, proud town struggles to maintain traditional traditions in light of the departure of many young people. However, there is a mounting sense of rage, hatred, and despondency. Homes are accessible and affordable. This makes it the perfect site for the Syrian migrants whom Britain has recently admitted. How will people react to the Syrians? What will happen to The Old Oak, the last remaining bar in the community?

MOVIE STORYLINE
THE OLD OAK is a special place. Not only is it the past pub standing, but it’s also the only remaining public space where people can meet in a once thriving mining community that has now fallen on hard times after 30 years of decline. TJ Ballantyne (Dave Turner), the landlord of The Old Oak, barely hangs on to the establishment, and the entrance of forcibly brought Syrian refugees into the community makes his condition much more dangerous.
TJ and the curious young Syrian Yara (Ebla MAri) who has her camera strike up an unexpected relationship. Can they make it such that the two communities can communicate with one another? A really affecting drama about their frailties and hopes so develops.
